What Is LDN?
This page is for adults with chronic pain, autoimmune disease, or long-term fatigue.
We prescribe low dose naltrexone by telehealth across Washington and Idaho. Our clinic is in Spokane.
LDN is a very small dose of naltrexone. It starts at 0.5 mg. The standard dose for opioid dependency is 50 to 100 mg. That is where the name comes from. At low doses, it is used off-label. This means it is used for conditions it was not first approved for. These include chronic pain, autoimmune diseases, fibromyalgia, Crohn's disease, and multiple sclerosis.
Possible Benefits of LDN
LDN has been linked to many possible benefits, mostly for chronic conditions:
- Chronic pain relief. It may ease pain from fibromyalgia and nerve pain (neuropathy).
- Autoimmune support. It may help balance the immune system. This may help Crohn's disease, multiple sclerosis, and rheumatoid arthritis.
- Less inflammation. LDN can lower inflammation in many parts of the body.
- Better quality of life. Easing pain and fatigue can improve daily life.
- Mood and mental health. Some studies suggest it may improve mood and ease depression and anxiety.
- Brain support. It may help manage symptoms of Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease.
- Better sleep. It may improve sleep. Chronic pain and autoimmune disease often disrupt sleep.
- Less fatigue. It may ease fatigue from chronic fatigue syndrome and other long-term illnesses.
- Possible cancer support. Some research suggests a role in cancer treatment by helping balance the immune system.
- Gut health. It may help irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and other gut disorders.
- Fewer withdrawal symptoms. It can help people recovering from opioid addiction.
- Low cost. LDN is cheap compared to other treatments for chronic conditions.
- Few side effects. It is well tolerated at low doses.
- Better immune function. It may help balance the immune system and reduce autoimmune flare-ups.
- Long COVID support. Early research suggests it may ease symptoms of long COVID.
How Is LDN Taken?
LDN absorbs well by mouth. It usually comes in capsules. You take it once a day.
