What Happens at Your First Functional Medicine Visit

If you have never worked with a functional medicine clinic, the first visit can feel like a mystery. Here is exactly what to expect at Evergreen Longevity & Functional Medicine, from the first phone call to your personalized plan, including what it costs. No surprises.

It Starts With a Free Discovery Call

Before anything else, we offer a free 15-minute phone call to talk through your health concerns and make sure we are the right fit for each other. No pressure and no obligation, just honest answers.

If we are not the right clinic for what you need, we will say so on this call instead of taking your money first.

Before Your Visit

Once you schedule, you complete an in-depth intake: detailed health history forms plus any previous labs and records you can gather.

Your clinician reviews all of it before you arrive, so your visit time is spent on you and not on paperwork.

It is worth digging out old lab results even if you were told they were normal. Results from three and five years ago show us direction over time, and direction is often more informative than today's number.

The Intake Visit

Your new patient appointment runs 1.5 to 3 hours and costs $275.

We walk through your full story: symptoms, timeline, sleep, stress, nutrition, medications, and what has already been tried. Most clinics give you 15 minutes. We give you the time it takes.

The question we always ask is when you last felt well, and what was happening around then. That single question surfaces more useful information than any test.

What We Ask About

Some of it will not sound like a typical doctor's appointment. Expect questions about your digestion and bowel habits, your energy through the day, your sleep and whether you wake refreshed, your stress and what has changed recently, your work and any chemical exposures, your dental history, and your family history in detail.

The dental question surprises people. Gum disease contributes to inflammation throughout the body, including in your arteries, so it is genuinely relevant.

Then Comes Testing

We order labs based on what your history suggests, not a fixed panel for everyone. That usually means a broader workup than you are used to: full thyroid including Free T3, metabolic markers like fasting insulin, nutrients, inflammation markers, and hormones where relevant.

Labs are billed separately at our cash price, and we tell you the cost before ordering anything. You have your blood drawn near you, wherever you live in Washington or Idaho.

Your Results Visit

We go through your results together on video, sharing the screen so you can see exactly what we are looking at.

You learn what each marker means, where you fall, and why it matters for your symptoms. We read results against optimal ranges rather than only the wide normal range on the lab sheet.

Then we build the plan and send it to you in writing, so you are not relying on memory.

What the Plan Looks Like

Your plan is specific to you and usually includes several pieces: food changes, sleep work, targeted supplements, and prescription medication or hormone therapy when those are the right tools.

We prioritize rather than hand you twenty changes at once. Usually we start with the one or two things most likely to make a difference, then add as those take hold. A plan you cannot follow is not a plan.

What Happens Next

This is where the model differs most from what you are used to. You can message us between visits, and responses typically come within the hour. When you message us, a licensed clinician answers, not a health coach.

We check in weekly until you feel better, then less often. Follow-up labs usually come at six to eight weeks so we can adjust based on evidence.

Ongoing care is covered by membership at $350 per month, and some patients who need fewer check-ins pay as little as $200.

How to Get the Most Out of It

Bring your old labs. Write down your top three concerns in order, because it is easy to forget the important one. List your medications and supplements with doses. And be candid about your sleep, your drinking, and your stress, since we cannot work with information we do not have.
